SAP TM helps organizations manage the entire transportation process, including planning and optimizing, forecasting, freight tendering, and charge management—all in real time.

The procurement and sale of freight is critical in supply chain management. SAP TM enables you to automate the quote-to-contract process, forecast future transportation needs, and negotiate freight rates with customers, trucking companies, and logistics service providers.
Orders and purchase orders from SAP S/4HANA and other third-party enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are integrated by AP TM. It provides real-time order-to-cash and procure-to-pay processes to assist in managing changes in transportation demand.
You can use manual and automated planning, as well as optimization tools, to determine the best resources and routes. You can reduce freight costs by combining inbound and outbound transports and planning processes across locations.

SAP TM - Integrations
SAP TM can be integrated with other SAP modules as well as third-party components and applications to carry out or automate complex processes in a variety of industries. - TM supports a direct integration based on deliveries by using web services. The TM planning results are transferred directly to EWM or SAP EWM.
- Transportation units are automatically created in the warehouse. Together with the delivery information, these form the basis for warehouse planning and execution. Confirmations of the execution results (such as loading and quantity discrepancies) are sent directly from EWM or SAP EWM to TM
The integration of TM with SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) enables you to do the following:
- Handle customs processing for TM business documents in SAP Global Trade Services
- Perform trade compliance checks for TM business documents in SAP Global Trade Services
- To track and monitor events for business objects in business processes. Visibility processes to monitor transportation execution in connection with TM. The transportation execution visibility processes enable users in roles such as transportation dispatcher, shipper, or ordering party, to track and monitor planned events or to report an actual event.
- Tracking and tracing is provided for the following business document types in TM: Freight units, Freight orders, Freight bookings, Transportation units and Resources
Embedded TM
SAP TM is now embedded in the 1709 release of S/4HANA, and ECC LE-TRA (Logistic execution – Transportation) will be obsolete by 2025. As a result, SAP recommends that customers using LE-TRA migrate to embedded TM in order to take advantage of the advanced TM functionalities. Embedded TM provides some IT and functional benefits w.r.t standalone SAP TM.
